FBC Celebrates Its Roots: 4th Annual Key West Brewfest is Coming!

One of the most exciting events in the craft beer world, has to be the Key West Brewfest! This event has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years. From just being a Brewfest on the beach, to now hosting events all week-long. Some of the events include beer dinners, beer bunches, seminars,  beer releases and brand parties. Eventually they should just change the name to  Key West Beer Week 🙂

CONCHAGEDDON! FBC’s Fall Seasonal Conchtoberfest is HERE!

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of its predecessor, our seasonal Conchtoberfest is back, and it’s maltier, smoother and better than ever! That’s right FBC fans and other purveyors of fine libations, our 6.5% ABV German-Style Marzen is back!

Our new quality control manager Joe Cull describes this year’s batch of Conchtoberfest as follows:

Appearance:
Deep Amber colored that “goldens” with light.

Aroma:
light malty, caramel scent. Anticipation of something sweet.

Taste:
Perfect medley of hops and malt, with an emphasis on the malts. Almost a
caramelized, roasted sensation with a slight spice.

Mouthfeel:
Medium-bodied with a slight carbonation, smooth.

Finish:
Very sweet finish that is savored to completion. “

We are über excited about this year’s release, back in the cobalt blue, and we have updated the label artwork to make it even more amazing! In our attempt to be more green and environmentally conscious at FBC, we decided to reuse the former six packs rather than waste them and order new ones.  This will give you, the consumer, a chance to have a  juxtaposition of the new and old labels, in addition to keeping more trash out of our landfills!

We hope you enjoy this year’s seasonal and look for more exciting beer releases this year from FBC! You can find it at Total Wine & More, ABC, Rolling Oats and on draft at you favorite local craft beer spot!

FBC and The World Beer Festival: Classing Up Craft Beer In Florida

As the craft beer movement has been sweeping across the country for the past few years, Florida has been trying to catch up and make a mark of its own. With plenty of new brewery’s opening up shop here in the sunshine state and our current expansion, craft beer doesn’t look like it’s going to be slowing down anytime soon. Not only are we getting more and more options of locally brewed goodness, but the quality of brews being put out are the best beers this state has ever seen.

Certain regions are even becoming craft beer destinations, such as Winter Park, Jacksonville and Tampa/St.Pete. We are starting to transcend the culture of craft beer into locally owned farm to table restaurants, locally owned bottle shops, cheese shops and even local butchers are starting to pop back up. With the rise of locally procured items, people’s palates and experiences are changing and they are tired of drinking yellow fizzy beer, eating bland foods and going to beer festivals that are merely “drink to you puke fests”. Finally Florida is getting what is deserves, “the sophisticates beer festival”, The World Beer Festival!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The World Beer Festival, by All About Beer Magazine is one of the premiere traveling festivals in the country. With emphasis on highly sought after brews, beer education and industry panels it is one of the most well put together beer sampling events. This year the World Beer Festival will be ascending onto the St Pete craft beer seen on Sept 22nd and then invading, two of the newest craft markets, Lakeland, FL on Nov. 10th and Naples/Ft Myers on Nov. 17th.

A few things that set this festival apart from the bigger booze fests here in FL are the emphasis on beer education. A few local legends speaking and holding seminars at this fest including Gerard Walen and Sean Nordquist, who will be leading the charge in enhancing ones knowledge of fine crafted brews and spreading the gospel of craft beer to the masses. Also The amount of actual brewers, beer reps and owners at this event will trump all other local festivals. This a chance for the craft beer enthusiast to meet some national and local beer gurus on a one on one level. Last but not least the beer. The quality and range of beer at this festival would even make Michael Jackson blush. (The famous beer writer and purveyor of fine ales and lager. NOT the recently deceased singer)

Florida Beer Company will be pouring the following at these Festivals:

Key West Southernmost Wheat – 91 rated Belgian-Style White (brewed with coriander, sweet orange peel, bitter orange peel and real key lime.)

Swamp Ape DIPA – Silver Medal winner 2011 US Open Beer Championships

Florida Lager – Bronze Medal winner 2011 at GABF

The Key West “Sunrise Shandy” – American as Key Lime Pie

Beer itself has always been the drink of choice during these hot summer months and is synonymous with BBQ’s and the Fourth of July. So this weekend instead of getting the usual mass-produced tasteless swill, why not zest up your party with a little help from us at the Florida Beer Company. Now normally we wouldn’t encourage messing around with our fine hand-crafted brews, but we have come up with a beer cocktail that is truly an American Original, The Key West “Sunrise Shandy”.

Not only is this libation crisp, tart and refreshing, but pulls the taste of Florida into every sip. With a nice citrus nose, cold crisp lime tartness, followed by that ever so subtle wheat finish this drink will be the life of any weekend gathering. This drink will inspire you to lay back and just melt away into a state of pure relaxation.

Key West Sunrise Shandy

1  fresh key lime

1 six-pack of Florida Beer Key West Southernmost Wheat

1 container of all natural Simply limeade (or you can make your own limeade)

1 16 oz pint glass

1) pour 10 oz. of Key West Southernmost Wheat into pint glass

2) Now mix 4-6 ounces of limeade into the glass (depending on taste)

3) Garnish with Key lime and enjoy!

(Variations of this include adding strawberry or Orange soda water)

From all of us at the Florida Beer Company, we wish each and everyone of you a happy and safe fourth of July weekend! For updates, photos and recipes from the Florida Beer Crew during the fourth, make sure to bookmark our blog!
